AWAKENING TOUR IN UK

May 2008

Team:  Ruth, Crosbie, Wilma, Martin, Becky, Johnny, Elaina, Sharon

On May 16th, a team of 8 of us began a 12 day tour in the UK, starting in London, (Streatham) moving through Essex ( High Ongar) and then up into the Midlands ( Sheffield) and northern part of England (Crawcrook,Newcastle-upon Tyne) before three days in Edinburgh Scotland, and then back to the Midlands. (Dronfield Woodhouse)  It was a wonderful time of seeing the Lord touch hearts deeply, and call forth a new understanding of our identity in Christ, both as individuals and as communities and nations. The theme of "Awakening" continues to dominate.  Here are some pictures of some of our travels. Enjoy!

London........en route to Streatham Baptist Church.

Mulberry House, High Ongar, Essex. We did two meetings here; one for worship leaders and then a larger meeting in the evening. It was a very sweet and intimate time, with much opportunity for testimony and praying for one another.

Martin with his drums +++  Crosbie with guitar

Just a happy pic of me!!  Hi from Sheffield!

This is where the meetings took place in Sheffield.  God was doing something very deep in the area of unity. The song 'Together we Come' was a pivotal song in the first night here, as we finished, encircling the room, with many different races joined together declaring that 'Only in You we are one!"

Our friend Ollie Pengilley showed up when we were in Sheffield, and painted during the worship. Ollie is doing some extraordinary stuff with painting, that is totally unique. I'm really excited about the potential of working together on some things. Do check out his website:

This was a fun evening at a pub in Sheffield. It was interesting to just play my violin, and to share about the presence of God in a language that was not  Christian-ese!!   We did some 'impromptu' music making, using the sounds of the glasses on the tables, etc. Quite fun!

This was a delightful evening in Crawcrook, near Newcastle, where the Lord spoke so tenderly to His people about receiving His heart.

Lost in 'Wonder, Love and Praise'!! in Crawcrook.

Martin, Johnny, Wilma

En route to Edinburgh. We did a lot of driving, beginning in London, and wending our way through the midlands and up along the northeast coast of England, into Northumbria    ( where we visited Martin and Becky's home for an hourand had a 'cuppa tea'  From there we drove on to Scotland, stopping to have Fish and chips and Haggis on the way!!

The Lord blessed us with a beautiful sunny day for the drive up from Newcastle to Edinburgh. Martin and Becky were wonderful 'tour guides' through Northumbria, where they have made their home for the last several years.  The area is rich with Celtic history, and of the beginnings of Christianity in UK.

L to R  Johnny, Elaina, Crosbie, Wilma, Martin and Becky

We stopped at Holy Island on the way to Edinburgh. This is where, in AD635, St. Aidan, the first Bishop of Lindisfarne kindled the lamp of Christianity in the north of England. It was fun to drive out here, and feel the atmosphere. It is what the Celts would call a 'thin place'     ie. an open heaven.

Holy Island  is a tidal Island....so we had to make sure we got onto the mainland in time to continue our journey to Scotland.

Crosbie and Sharon, in a pub 'somewhere' in UK!!!

Haggis!!...yum yum. I'd never had this before, but it's delicious!!

from L to R

Crosbie, Martin, Becky, Wilma, Sharon, Elaina (hidden) Ruth

Martin and Wilma, on Holy Island.

Arrived at "Wellspring" Edinburgh, where we did two days of meetings. They have bought an old church, and are renovating it to contain a worship centre, prayer room, various rooms to stay in, school, and apartment where the leaders, David and Maggie live. They've only been there a year or so, and it is a vibrant place, full of promise. Thank you Lord!

 Martin and Elaina

A powerful moment, when we prayed specifically for those who were 'true Scots'- something was really released at this meeting! Wow!

Standing with Martin is a man who was at our first meeting in Edinburgh. He is from Samoa, and is a missionary with his wife, in China. During the meeting the Lord was speaking to us about being 'warriors' and it was very powerful. This man then stood up, and gave us a demonstration of a Somoan style 'warrior dance' which was so powerful. My heart was very impacted by this, and I asked him to pray for me.  I was so touched by the humility and gentleness of this 'warrior'....surely something that we have to learn about, and become.

Crosbie and Elaina. ( Crosbie was asking  Elaina  if she felt as though she was on tour with her parents.....she's a mere 23 years old!!) She assured us "No!"  ( whew!!)

Christine Tooze ( from Sheffield) Dave and Maggie Hewitt, Johnny and Martin, outside Edinburgh Castle.  The seating is all set up for the Edinburgh Tattoo ( a great display of all things Scottish....bagpipes, dancing etc) that happens throughout the summer.

Setting up at All Saints, Woodford Green.

Driving through the Valley of Rocks towards Lee Abbey

Afternoon  'cream tea' at Watersmeet, Lynmouth, Devon

with friends during time at Lee Abbey.

Roseanne, Ruth, Myra, John, Sharon, Jaqui, Ian, Bob, Ali and Johnny

Lee Abbey.  Devon

The 'Octagonal' lounge at Lee Abbey, where we spent four days exploring 'The Awakening'  A wonderfully challenging time!

The weather was wonderful the whole time here, and there was plenty of time to spend with the Lord, trying to understand all that He was saying to us.

En route to Cornwall, with Richard and Pat.

Also en route....a 12th Century church at Tintagel

John, Ali, Myra, and Johnny.

Ali and Myra stepped in at the last minute to come on this tour with us, as Wilma and Crosbie were unable to come because of the death of Wilma's mom.  Ali and Myra don't sing!!....but they do lots of other wonderful things to make a team function beautifully!! The Lord is good to us!

John, 'hanging out' in the home where we stayed in Cornwall.

What a treat this was!
